Our skin is so large, that it takes up about 20 square feet of space!

It is also our fastest growing organ.

Our skin protects our body’s insides from disease, injury, keeps our body temperature regulated, helps to hold our muscles in place, keeps out water, and helps us to sense things through the nerves in our skin. It’s an amazing creature!

As our skin is basically a nice big coat over our inner body that has the first contact with our environment – it can really take a beating.

Some of the causes for skin issues stem from toxins in our environment are caused by:

First, what Turmeric does for your skins’ health overall is:

Just How Does Turmeric Lighten Melasma?

 

Curcumin, the main active ingredient in Turmeric, is responsible for reducing and prohibiting the production of Melanin, the substance that causes our dark spots.

Turmeric was tested in 2 different studies and on 80 different patients that were being treated for Melasma.

Some patients received a cream with Hydroquinone in it, and the others received a cream with Turmeric compounds in it. (Hydroquinone is a compound that has been banned by the FDA in the U.S. because it cannot be ruled out as a carcinogenic. It is used in skin lightening creams and ointments).

  • The first study showed using the Turmeric and the Hydroquinone had equal results, but the Turmeric results were achieved without the side effects of the chemical toxins in the Hydroquinone.
  • The second study showed that using Turmeric greatly reduced Melanin levels, and that these levels continued to decrease throughout the study. (source)
  • *Yet another study showed that Turmeric/Curcumin specifically prohibited the production of Melanin: it does this by basically preventing messages getting to the proteins that create the pigmentation in our skin. (source)

Turmeric applied directly to your skin results in:

  • no side effects
  • a reduction in the Melanin in our sun/dark spots that we already may have
  • the prohibition of Melanin production in our bodies, which prevents future dark spots

What’s the Best Way to Apply Turmeric to Your Skin?

One of the best ways is to mix ¼ teaspoon of turmeric with some coconut oil, and apply to your face as a cleansing moisturizer. Just leave it on for about 10 – 15 minutes, then rinse off.

Other ingredients that are great for your skin and mix well with Turmeric are; milk, honey, egg whites, French clay, avocados, bananas, or any other natural and organic item you use for face masks.

The key is, to mix in a small amount, (starting with ¼ teaspoon is perfect) with your favourite other goodies into a perfect paste (you’ll need to experiment a bit to find what suits your own personal preferences here) that you pat on clean dry skin, and leave on anywhere from 5 – 15 minutes.

Try doing this several times a week, and give it at least 30 – 60 days to see a difference in your dark spots.

*Keep including Organic Turmeric in your diet as well when you are using it topically on your face!

 

*Be Aware: Do note, that if you leave it on longer than 15 minutes, it can stain your skin a little yellowish colour! If this happens, you can use a gentle sugar scrub to remove the leftover colouring from your skin. This is why it’s good to start using it for short periods of time to begin with…and increase your amounts as your skin tone evens out and adapts to its new glow.
