Super-Charge Your Turmeric with Coconut Oil

We hope that you are all enjoying with us some of the amazing health benefits that come from adding Turmeric into your diet on a regular basis!

There is growing evidence and excitement over the numerous ways we can protect our good health and heal faster from any number of health challenges by regularly using Turmeric in our food and beverages.

There’s not much that dear Turmeric can’t do! She is truly a super-power when it comes to medicinal herbs, and her main weapon for defending your good health is Curcumin.

Curcumin is one of the most studied active ingredients in Turmeric that delivers most of the medicinal benefits. It is what provides that royal yellowish colour to Turmeric.

Amidst all of the benefits that Curcumin provides, it does have one challenge; and that is that is not easily absorbable. In fact, it tends to stay in our digestive tract unless we combine it with other ingredients that will help it pass from the stomach through the small intestines and then throughout the rest of our body through the bloodstream.

Why? Because Curcumin is fat soluble; meaning it only digests in fat. Unless Curcumin is taken with fat, it won’t digest, and you won’t absorb the health benefits.

As with all superheroines, help is close at hand and there is a power-punch of strength that comes from one particular friend: Curcumin.

(Isn’t that a bit like Life…we all do better with a helping hand!)

Coconut to the rescue!

Coconut Oil is considered one of the best sources of fatty acids in any food as it contains almost 90% saturated fats.

Don’t worry…these are good fats!

They are different than the types of saturated fats you find in red meat and dairy products. These types of bad fats are known as long-chain fatty acids, but Coconut Oil has medium-chain triglycerides instead.

Medium-chain triglycerides are metabolized differently in the digestive system than the long-chain triglycerides. The medium-chain triglycerides end up going quickly into the liver and then send out all of their goodness into the rest of our system from there. Interestingly, the liver is the main organ involved with processing Curcumin.

Since Coconut Oil so easily spreads its goodness through our bodies, let’s look at some of the ways it enhances our health and immune systems.

Like Turmeric, this superfood can powerfully tackle almost any type of immune deficiency and illness because it is so easily absorbed by the body. It has become a favourite staple of many health conscious people for cooking, skin care, and medicinal purposes. It also makes a great carrier oil for the topical use of essential oils.

What happens when Turmeric and Coconut Oil Team Up?

It’s the Power Team! Curcumin grabs onto the fatty acids in the Coconut Oil and takes the ride of her life throughout your body and starts zapping inflammation, warding off bacteria and viruses, and delivering care packages of oxygen and nutrients to every organ and cell.

Curcumin remember, is fat soluble. This means that even if she were in a traveling mood, she wouldn’t be able to buck her way out of your colon and into the liver without some strong fatty acids to hop on and get her through the barriers.

Once Curcumin hitches on to Coconut Oil, all of those powerful benefits from the pair start flowing through your system, and you start glowing with renewed energy and vitality.

There are many ways to add this power team to your diet. You can sauté vegetables in coconut oil and sprinkle in Turmeric, you could sprinkle it on some avocado slices, add some to curries and soups or add it to roasted veggies. You can also drink it, which is our favourite way to have it!
