Grounding Yourself for Health
Connect with Mother Earth Again!
You know how good you feel after a day at the beach, or a long walk in natural surroundings? That is largely because you have actually given your body a therapeutic session, even while you were just having fun or finding your peace of mind. Grounding, also known as earthing, simply means actively ensuring that you spend time electrically reconnecting your body to the earth.
Why Should I Bother With This?
Great question! And here is your answer, in simple 1,2,3.
Your body runs on electrical energy, and it needs to produce it to work optimally.
Your body is made of largely of water, making you a wondrous electricity conductor.
The Earth generously gives us more electrons, enabling us to detox, repair and rebuild more effectively.
Grounding, or Earthing, restores the body's natural state – making it a ‘wonder-drug’ for natural health, vibrant energy, clarity of mind and aging beautifully. On a more esoteric level, direct contact with the ground realigns with the frequency of the universe – the infinite energy that is responsible for gravity, DNA movement, and the movement of every single thing in each one of the galaxies.
And if everything in the universe needs to work in perfect order, it is obvious that your body does too; and this is the energy required in order to so. This energy is yours for the taking, given to you to balance your own energy field and that running through your physical state.
And guys, guys… IT’S FREE. A gift from the Mother Earth, to help us in our physical bodies. And you know, when you feel good on the outside, you feel good on the inside too, so it helps our spiritual bodies too.

Obsessive thoughts. Usually negative imaginings.
Obsessive behaviours. Seeming inability to control your appetites for these.
Feelings of overwhelm, like feeling ‘unanchored.’
Inability to focus.
Distressed emotions.
Inability to calm yourself.
Exhaustion.
How Do I Ground/Earth Myself Naturally?
Mother Earth gifts us with options to be found!
Barefoot Walks: touching your feet to the natural ground is… grounding lol. Walking on the ground, grass or sand is one of the easiest ways to do this. Wearing leather-soled shoes is an alternative, if needed.
The Earth: lying down in grass, sand or earth so that more of your body connects with the ground is the best way. If it is cold, a blanket made of natural materials, like wool, is a good way of insulating yourself from the chill if needed.
Water! Finding a natural body of water, like a lake or ocean, is wonderfully grounding. Why do you think you sleep so well after a lovely day in the water (and sun).
Risks: STAY SAFE, stay alert to your surroundings.
How Do I Ground/Earth Myself Using Grounding Equipment?
Don’t worry if you can’t be outside, here are some alternatives. You can find all these products online, but when buying, please make sure you only source reputable products.
Grounding Socks
Grounding Bands
Grounding Patches
Grounding Mats
Grounding Sheets
Grounding Blankets
Another way is to literally earth your body with a metal rod pushed into the ground outside, with a wire running far enough that you can connect it to your body! There is a lot of information online, so if you are, or can borrow, a handyman type, this is a fantastic alternative.
How Do I Ground Myself With Food?
Root vegetables: As they burrow down into the Earth, they absorb water and nutrients. Eating all of this, will keep you grounded too. Obviously, the more organic and the more local the better. This is a rule of thumb, but luckily with root veggies even if you cant afford organic, they are usually less exposed to the pesticides and poisons than above-ground veggies bring to the table.
Herbs: Herbs are full of essential vitamins and minerals. Eating herbs raw is grounding already, and they can also be made into soothing infusions when steeped in hot water. The water in itself is deeply grounding! Herbs like black pepper, cinnamon, and ginger support the absorption of nutrients into the cells, and are very warming and soothing.
The Science of Grounding
The central theory from one review study is that grounding affects the living matrix, which is the central connector between living cells. Electrical conductivity exists within the matrix that functions as an immune system defence, similar to antioxidants. They believe that through grounding, the natural defences of the body can be restored.
Further research expands on this idea. In a study on grounding and heart health, 10 healthy participants were grounded using patches on the palms of their hands and soles of their feet.
Blood measurements were taken before and after grounding to determine any changes in red blood cell fluidity, which plays a role in heart health. The results indicated significantly less red blood cell clumping after grounding, which suggests benefits for cardiovascular health. Another slightly larger study examined the role of grounding on post-exercise muscle damage. Researchers used both grounding patches and mats and measured creatine kinase, white blood cell count, and pain levels before and after grounding.
Blood work indicated that grounding reduced muscle damage and pain in participants. This suggests that grounding may influence healing abilities.
With many thanks for this last word, to the website healthline.com.
There is still much research to be done in this area – you will find a lot online, and there is a lot more coming. But for now, you know the benefits of living more naturally, so you have nothing to lose but a bad mood and perhaps a kilo or two!
To your vibrant health!
